Kelsey Galloway is in only her second season of racing, but she is having a blast with her Farmington Valley Youth Cycling teammates. When she had to come up with a school Capstone Project, it was easy for her to pick the topic. BIKES! She shared just the tip of the iceberg of her experiences with us, "This is only my second season racing, but I attended the CCAP mountain bike camp over the summer. It was an amazing experience. I was able to really push myself and meet some amazing kids involved with the program. I formed connections with the riders from camp that have stuck with me. I value my experience racing last year, but I do not think I would have been this involved and moved by the CCAP if it wasn't for that one week of camp. Last year was my first year racing, so I still had a ton to learn. For my capstone project I started by getting certified as a USA cycling coach (I had to complete Safe Sport Training, Heads up concussion training, and a background check). The next step of my project is helping out at the CCAP's Team Red Dragon race with registration, set up, and cleanup. Then on June 3 I will be helping lead an all girls ride at the CCAP Breakaway Benefit. I chose cycling and the CCAP for my project because biking has had such a huge impact on my life. I think I found mountain biking at a time in my life when I needed it most. It gave me a passion and a community. It has become an outlet for me and a way for me to challenge myself in ways I never knew possible. The cycling community is so unique compared to most sports in that everyone is encouraging and welcoming. So when it came time for my capstone project I knew I wanted to give back to that community in some way." Thank you Kelsey! We can't wait for you to share more of your story with the next generation of riders! |
